The Annual Youth2Kingston Youth Forum was a hit!
The youth forum is an annual event run by Kingston youth & adults to spotlight all that's been happening for young people in Kingston and provide a platform for you to share your voice on things that matter to you! The Forum had tons of exciting workshops!
Here are some highlights from the 2017 Youth Forum!
The 2017 Youth Forum was a hit! Tons of youth attended free workshops! On Friday, the Kingston Youth Councils (MP Gerretsens Youth Council, MPP Kiwala's Youth Council and the Mayors Youth Councils) held the Civic Engagement workshop with special guests MPP Sophie Kiwala, MP Mark Gerretsen and Mayor Bryan Paterson. During the same time of the workshop, the anti-racism workshop (run by Kingston's Anti- Racism working group) was held. Youth listened, learned and discussed racism within Kingston and Canada. Both groups had amazing participants and turnouts! Afterwards, the Athena Collective workshop and the Sexuality Workshop were running. Participants were able to voice their opinions on both these topics and work towards a more friendly community. Youth then contributed to the Respect the Pink 2018 first planning meeting. Youth threw their workshop ideas out in the open and discussed what bullying means to them.
On Saturday, youth were involved in the Talking Circle run by 3 Things Consulting where youth learned more about indigenous history, awareness and inclusivity. Later, youth had some fun during their free time! There was also a youth connectors meeting, where youth discussed forming a platform where different councils and groups across KFL&A could update each other on different projects and promote their initiatives and projects. That night, Blue Canoe helped setup the Viva Voce Distinctions, where youth told their stories through poetry, songs and other forms of media. It was an amazing event and we encourage youth to attend the upcoming youth forum!
It was an awesome two days!
